Now this picture, I think is my favorite. I liked the way Taeok posed in this picture. It's different than any picture I've ever seen before actually. I edited the brighness and contrast, and also made it black and white. I like where the shadows are in this picture. The pose in this picture makes the photo have sort of a story. To me it looks like he's hidng, but dancing at the same time. It's really weird, but i like it.
This picture is really quite interesting to me. This is another dance picture where Taeok is posed in a position that isn't so "dancy" which makes the picture look even better. I didn't really do much photoshopping to this picture because I really liked the way it came out sort of dull, and nautrally. I liked the shadows on the right side of the picture, and how the quality is some what dull.
This is where my portfolio started to change, i started to shoot indoors and use the white background in Ms Miles room. I attempted to shoot Taeok in sort of a "dance" style, but i didn't want to do the normal dance pictures, of people jumping because those are so typical. I liked the position Taeok was in, in this picture.. and when i started messing with it on photoshop i was using the clone tool, and this is how the picture came out. Taeok and i were editing it together and we both agreed that we thought this looked weird but cool at the same time, so i decided to keep it.
Again, Taeok wasn't posing. But it looked like a pose just a little bit to me, so I liked it. The lighting looked really good in this one, and his blonde streak looks good in here. I like the contrast in this photo, and I photoshopped this picture and I played with the brightness/contrast which made the blonde streak really stand out. I also changed levels of this picture, and I like the way the shadow makes the picture look.
In this photo I shot Taeok.. again. He's a really good model actually, even though he gets on my nerves. Ha, jk. Well anyways I shot him in the studio, and was really just messing around with different kinds of lighting, he wasn't really paying attention when I shot him, he was actually playing with his phone.. o_O but I think I made it work pretty well. I like the way the light was really more focused on his face.. And also the really big shadow in the background.
This is the start of my portraits. I shot Taeok, and this was just a head shot for him to have for his Resume's for dance.. but I actually ended up liking it. I used the white back drop in Ms Miles room &the strobe. I like the way the strobe makes this clear effect and i like the way there are shadows on his neck, and really shows the linging of it.
Portfolio Proposal
Summary of Request:
Proposed by: Shayla Wentt
Project Title: Portraits
Class: Digital Arts Mixed Media
Instructor: Miles
Project Due Date: 01/31/2011
Project Description
For my portfolio I would like to have a variety of images based on portraits of different people. There will be a common theme for the people I take pictures of, but it would be a random selection of people. The pictures would mainly take place in the studio, rather than be outside with actually landscape.
Type Of Work: Portraiture
Concept
The people in these portraits will have no relation to each other, but will still have a common theme. I like to take pictures that show the naturalness in people. Meaning no make up, limited or no big bright distracting clothing. The main purpose of doing my portfolio about portraits is that gives you more emphasis on showing your lighting skill. I believe that when taking pictures of people, it’s more about lighting and that’s a big focus. So I’d like to show my improvement on that.
Vision
I would like my viewers to look at my work with an open mind. Rather than trying so hard to find a concept, I want them to just appreciate the pictures for the art in which they express. And realize the beauty that the portrait is presenting.
Inspirtation
I don’t really have an actually inspiration. But seeing how my pictures have came out from the past is inspiration enough, I guess you can say when im setting up for a picture seeing the way the light hits the person im about to take of really inspires me.
Equiptment to be Used
35mm Digital Camera, DSLR, Strobe Light, Hot lights, Black back drop
Presentation
Unknown.
This is my first shot. When i first started shooting for my portfolio, i wasn't sure on what i wanted exactly.. so when i shot this picture i really liked the outcome, and somewhere along the lines i started shooting a lot of landscaping/flowers and that kind of stuff. But i really liked how this picture came out, with how the flower in the front is really focused and the back is blurred out, and the colors of the flower is really nice.
This was for our fine arts assignment. Miles said our assignments had to be meaningful.. or have some type of meaning behind it. I chose this picture I took of Nicole Kubiak, because it showed some sense of peace. And peace is VERY important, it gives that serenity feel.. the way the lighting of the photo is just bright white light, gives it that relaxing feel. And how she basically looks "nude" adds on to the feel of the photo, how she looks relaxed, her pose in this photo. This is one of my favorite photos actually :) So i give myself a pat on the back!
Still life assignment, objects used where some elements of the earth obviously like these pine cones and some dried up leaves, all combined into a drum turned upside down. I used the warm lighting to create this yellow looking effect, and on top of that a couple of blur filters on photoshop to change the look of this picture.
This was for the hairspray assignment. I used Chelsea Lansang as my model, and what I chose to do was make her look like a Pin up girl, from back during the 50'a/60's. I did her hair and her make up for this shoot. I was happy with the way things turned out for this shoot. I liked how the lighting was mainly towards her face, which gave it that classy look.
This was our cultural assignment. And of course i shot nicole. I actually liked this assignment, i got to paint her with patterns all over her body. The culture i was showing was like a Native culture. Usually religious reasons are why any Native would paint their bodies. In this photo she's also holding feathers, because they also used the paint on their bodies as camouflage when hunting, and that's what the feathers represent. I was happy with the way my picture turned out. I used only a little effects on this picture because I wanted more of a natural light and essence to the picture, so I just fixed up the brightness/contrast and put an Omni Lighting Effect.
This assignment was to try and replace the photo that is on the school's website. I shot nicole, and the objects she has in this photo is to represent the many arts here at SCPA. The adjustments i made in this photo were mainly with color, i didn't want to add any extra effects because i liked the simplicity the photo had, so i just chose to play around with the brightness/contrast adjustments, color levels and tones. I am happy wit the way my picture turned out because it captured what i was going for. It's simply, but expresses alot.
I chose to do a fashion type of portrait. I thought about making mine different by making it only of her body, I also chose a different location. It's kind of simple but I used a Gradient map edit, even though it looks really simple, it took a lot of steps. Im pretty happy with the out come, cause simple but different was what i was going for.. And that is was pretty much the result. The model i used was chelsea, she's sort of in a fashion type pose.. But it was nothing too drastic. She was semi-dressed up for ASB that day, so i decided to shoot her.
On this assignment we were supossed to pick a different setting for a location, and i chose the library. because you don't often see pictures taken in a library. i brought the strobe into the library also to enhance the lighting. i thought this picture came out well, i like how there is books at every corner at the picture.
